Red Hat and Meta Collaborate on Open-Source AI for Enterprises

Open-source specialist Red Hat and Facebook parent Meta have announced a new partnership to make generative AI (GenAI) “more accessible, consistent, and affordable” for businesses.

The two companies have been collaborating for some time. For example, Meta’s AI model, Llama 4, has been supported for some time by Red Hat AI and vLLM, an open-source AI platform that accelerates the execution of language models.
In the next phase, Red Hat and Meta will join forces to align the Llama Stack and vLLM projects better. This should make it both easier and more cost-effective for companies to use and deploy open GenAI technology.

Inference
According to market research firm Gartner, by 2026, more than 80 percent of independent software vendors will integrate AI into their business applications, compared to only 1 percent today. According to Red Hat and Meta, this demonstrates the urgent need for open and reliable technology.
The new collaboration should ensure that GenAI applications run smoothly across various platforms, cloud services, and AI accelerators—especially during the phase in which AI is effectively used: inference , or simply put, the ability to derive new knowledge from existing knowledge.

The open collaboration has resulted in two significant projects. First, Llama Stack, developed by Meta and available as open source. It offers standard building blocks and connectors to simplify the construction and management of AI applications. The other project is vLLM, a project spearheaded by Red Hat. This is an inference server that improves the performance of GenAI models, including Llama 4.
