Elon Musk launches Grokipedia as an Alternative to Left-Wing Wikipedia

Elon Musk and his startup xAI have launched Grokipedia. The online encyclopedia is intended to counter the biased Wikipedia website, which Musk considers biased.

On Monday evening, version 0.1 of Grokipedia debuted on the World Wide Web, already boasting over 885,000 AI-generated definitions. Wikipedia currently boasts 7 million English-language pages. The site is free to use and will soon be succeeded by version 1.0, which Musk claims will be “ten times better” than the current version, which is already “better than Wikipedia.”

Like several Republican leaders, Musk has also regularly criticised Wikipedia in recent years. He claims the platform is “controlled by far-left activists.” With his AI chatbot, Grok and Grokipedia, the world’s richest man wants to offer a counterbalance. “The goal of Grok and Grokipedia is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth,” Musk said.

Grok himself has also caused a stir in recent months due to antisemitic remarks made by the chatbot.

Wikipedia, which appeared online in 2001, is a collaborative encyclopedia maintained by volunteers and claims to maintain a “neutral point of view” in its content. Grokipedia’s content is generated by artificial intelligence (AI) and the generative AI assistant Grok, but multiple sources are also cited on each page.
