
TikTok is building a new version of its app for users in the United States, ahead of the planned sale of the app to a group of investors.
The Information reports this, a technology news site. The short video platform plans to launch its new app in American app stores on September 5.
On Friday, US President Donald Trump announced that he would be talking to China on Monday or Tuesday about a possible deal with TikTok. He said that the United States “almost” has an agreement on the sale of TikTok.
The US Congress passed a law in 2024 to ban downloading TikTok unless the China-based owner, ByteDance, sold the American parts of the app by January 19. Since then, Trump has extended the deadline to find a buyer by 90 days three times, most recently on June 17.
