Nvidia's Market Capitalisation Surpasses $5 Trillion

Nvidia’s market capitalisation surpassed $5 trillion on Wednesday. The American chip giant is the first company ever to surpass that mark.

What was still a question mark on Wednesday morning is now an exclamation point: chip giant Nvidia is worth $5 trillion. To be clear, that’s a 5 with no fewer than 12 zeros after it. It’s the first company to surpass that milestone, but what adds to the story is that it was only four months ago that Nvidia was worth more than $4 trillion.

The company has become the leading developer of processors for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) applications and is enjoying a boom in the AI market. It is stringing together deals to supply tech companies.

Shortly after the opening bell in New York, Nvidia’s share price rose 5.2 percent. Wednesday’s gain follows statements by US President Donald Trump, who is meeting with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in South Korea on Thursday.

During that meeting, Trump said he is open to discussing Chinese access to Blackwell processors, Nvidia’s most advanced AI chip technology, as part of a trade deal. By Tuesday’s closing bell, Nvidia’s share price had already risen by half since the beginning of the year.
