China will impose import restrictions on medical equipment from the European Union once its value exceeds 45 million yuan (approximately $6.8 million).
The “countermeasure” will take effect on Sunday, the Chinese Ministry of Finance announced.
Companies that supply this equipment will no longer be allowed to participate in government tenders, the ministry said. China will also restrict the import of medical equipment from other countries if it contains EU-made components for more than 50 percent of the contract value.
The measure was prompted by the European Union’s decision to restrict the access of Chinese manufacturers of medical equipment to government tenders within the EU.
