French President Emmanuel Macron will make a state visit to the United Kingdom over the next three days.
The visit confirms an increasingly close relationship, following the turbulent Brexit period. At a closing political summit, defence and migration are high on the agenda.
The French President and his wife, Brigitte, arrived in London at noon and were welcomed by Crown Prince William and Princess Kate. At 13:00, they were received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla at Windsor Castle.
Chances are that not only English was spoken there, but also a little French, because the British king speaks the language fluently. Charles loves France, which is well known. In 2023, during his state visit to France, he addressed the French Senate in French.
The first day of Macron’s visit is primarily filled with ceremonial appointments and the necessary pomp and circumstance that the British excel at. The highlight is the state banquet tonight at Windsor Castle. The political highlight of the first day is his speech to both houses of the British parliament.
