The British postal company Royal Mail has been fined again for delivery delays, according to a report by communications watchdog Ofcom.
This is the third consecutive year this has happened. The fine this year amounts to £21 million.
The regulator warned that the postal company could face further fines if it fails to meet delivery targets. Ofcom’s director of enforcement said that Royal Mail needs to make “significant improvements, not more empty promises.”
“Millions of important letters are arriving late, and people aren’t getting what they paid for.”
Royal Mail was acquired this year by the company owned by Czech billionaire Daniel Křetínský. The company recently returned to operating profit through cost savings, including voluntary redundancies and reduced deliveries of certain non-priority mail.
“We continue to work hard to achieve further sustainable improvements in the quality of our services,” Royal Mail said.
