Musk Calls for EU Abolition After Multi-Million Dollar Fine for X

Elon Musk believes the EU should be disbanded. The American billionaire made this comment in response to the EU’s multi-million dollar fine against his messaging service X.

The European Commission imposed a fine of 120 million euros on X for violating European rules, including misleading information about blue check marks. These check marks previously made it possible to verify that a person was actually behind an X account.

However, since the takeover by Musk, the blue check marks can be purchased. The EU concludes that they are, therefore, misleading.

Furthermore, the Commission found that X is in breach of the law because it is not transparent enough in its advertising database, which is not properly searchable and reliable.

This makes it difficult to search for, for example, fake political advertisements circulating on the platform, according to a senior EU official. X is also being fined because researchers are not given sufficient access to data from the company that should be public.

It is not yet known whether Elon Musk will appeal the hefty fine. He placed his demand for the abolition of the EU at the top of his X-profile. He has previously accused the EU of censorship.
