Russia Says It Will No Longer Send Kenyans to Fight in Ukraine

Russia has agreed with Kenya that no more Kenyans will be deployed in the war with Ukraine.

Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi said he received this assurance during a conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Moscow.

Kenya reported last month that more than a thousand Kenyans in Ukraine were fighting for the Russian army. Later, a man was arrested on suspicion of smuggling people into Russia. According to Moscow, all Kenyan soldiers have volunteered for the army.

According to Mudavadi, Kenyans in Russia who are in need of help will receive consular support. He also said that this issue need not be a reason for deteriorating relations between Russia and Kenya. “Our relationship is much broader than this,” he said in Moscow.
