London police have arrested three men on suspicion of spying for Russia. The agency announced this in a press release.
The locations in west and central London where the three men in their forties were arrested are being searched. A search is also being conducted at another address in west London.
According to Dominic Murphy, head of London’s counterterrorism squad, the men are “proxies”—people recruited by foreign security services to obtain information, for example.
The police are not disclosing the specifics of what the three are suspected of. Murphy adds that such criminal activities are closely monitored and that anyone involved in this way with foreign security services faces “very serious consequences.”
In September, three men were also arrested near London on suspicion of “assisting” Russia. At that time, it involved two men aged 41 and 46 and a woman aged 35.
